Frequently Asked Questions:
Question 1
Do you offer group reservations?
Starting July 26th, 2021, we will resume offering group reservations for weekdays only. These are by appointment only, and any bookings made by customers are pending until confirmed by a staff member. Unfortunately, we no longer allow group reservations during the weekends. This is because in the past the time it takes to ensure everyone is accounted for on a waiver takes a significant amount of time and a large group would cause delays for other customers with individual reservations. Since we stream-lined the process by making signing our Waiver and Release of Liability part of the reservation process, the check-in process for individual reservations is much quicker than pre-pandemic times when it used to be 20 - 30 minute long queues for check-in. Please do not make multiple reservations under the same name unless you are making a reservation for a minor you are the parent/legal guardian of. Every paddler must be accounted for in a reservation.
Question 2
How do I redeem a raincheck?
If rainchecks are not redeemed with 30 days or if you have a partial raincheck, please make a new reservation and enter the old reservation number in the "Raincheck Code". You must email us so to inform us of this change so that we can apply a refund to the card on file up to the raincheck amount.
Question 3
Will the equipment support my weight?
The single sit-on-top kayaks and Stand Up Paddleboards will support a weight up to 250 lbs, the tandem sit-on-top kayaks will support a combined weight of up to 450 lbs. If you exceed the weight capacity for a 1-person equipment, please consider the tandem kayak.
Question 4
May I bring my dog out on a kayak or SUP?
If you can manage your lovable creature and they weigh less than 50 lbs, and we won't have to play dog rescue, then, you may take them out on our kayaks, no SUPs please! One per kayak only please, and please provide your own dog's PFDs.
Question 5
Is there a minimum age requirement?
We have life jackets that fit children as small as 30lbs. Children that are not able to paddle on their own will need to be in a tandem kayak with a competent paddler. We advise parents to assess their child's own physical and mental capabilities/ limitations when paddling with another minor or on their own. We do reserve the right to make a final call as we take into consideration other factors such as weather and lake conditions. We do not allow 3 people in a tandem kayak, so if your young one needs to be in a parent's lap, then it would be best that you wait till they are older. We absolutely do not allow parent's to swap out kids if one needs to be left on shore unattended.
Question 6
Are there any requirements I need to meet prior to renting equipment?
You must have the ability to enter and exit the craft independently or with the assistance of a companion. You must have the ability to remain seated and balanced, and have the ability to maneuver the craft through water and return it safely. If your craft capsizes, you must have the independent ability to get out from underneath the craft. Last but not least, YOU MUST ALWAYS WEAR A PFD (type III)!
Question 7
Do you rent to minors (under 18)?
Yes, we do! Parents will need to make a reservation on their behalf.
Question 8
May I rent the equipment for use at other locations other than White Rock Lake?
No. All equipment being rented will need to launch from and be returned to our location on White Rock Lake during normal business hours.
Question 9
Do you sell any of your used equipment?
Yes, please contact us.
Question 10
How late in the season will you be open till, and when will you reopen?
Our season is based on temperatures. We use American Canoe Association (ACA) guidelines: Water Temperature greater than 60 degF or (Air temperature + Water temperature) greater than 120 degF.
*COVID-19: Federal, state, and local mandates could impact our operating hours/capacity.
Question 11
What should I wear for kayaking?
Well, kayaking is a wet sport, but it also depends on the weather. So dressed to get wet (boardshorts, swimsuits, rash guards.... take your pick), and if it's a colder and drizzly day wear layers. Light rain jackets that are designed to repel water is best. Also, since it's an outdoor activity, sunblock is strongly advised. It's most effective to put it on 30-minutes prior to any activity, so put it on while your suiting up, and put it on generously!
